Mechanical Engineer – Wickliffe, Ohio

SUMMARY:  Acts as a “project leader” along with customer from initial design phase  – (APQP team, prototyping, etc.) –  though the final production phases.  Responsible for research, development & design of complex mechanical devices and controls requiring a higher level of experience and skill.  Heavy customer contact & support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Acts as a project leader (plans, develops, coordinates, etc.) along with customer from initial design phase  – (APQP team, prototyping, etc.) –  though the final production phases.
  • Is available to customers to answer questions as needed.  Travels to customer sites as required. 
  • Performs design calculations and prepares equipment or material specifications.
  • Gives approval on drawings, Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), etc.
  • Review Tooling Schedule to ensure timely movement of projects; handles problems as needed.
  • Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others.
  • Should have working knowledge of AutoCAD.  Instructs Designer(s) and/or draftsperson(s) to assist with design and/or customer prints.
  • Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods and represents the organization in conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by Engineering Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience (minimum 10 years in Engineering function in Metal industry).
  • Minimum of 2-4 years’ experience working in Engineering Department for Manufacturing Company (preferably metals industry).
  • Experience in customer service preferred but not required.
  • Excellent communication skills (deals with customers and employees)
  • Able to work well under pressure of deadlines
  • Good attendance required.
  • Accuracy and detail orientations.
  • Computer literate (word processing, spreadsheet, Internet, e-mail, engineering software)
  • Ability to work well under pressure of deadlines and manage and complete multiple tasks
  • Accuracy and detail orientations.
  • Familiarity with engineering terms, blueprints, and control plans.
